Tell me, what is your plan with your one wild & precious life?

Are you remembering to play?

Are you remembering to spark?

Are you remembering to put it ALL at His feet and REVEL like a kid in His presence?

This morning in my journal I was asking myself these questions.

Am I remembering to live life?

This is awesome! I found this on one of my favorite blogs, The Lettered Cottage. I had to share.

1. Make a pact. No one else is going to build the life you want for you. No one else will even be able to completely understand it. The most amazing souls will show up to cheer you on along the way, but this is your game. Make a pact to be in it with yourself for the long haul, as your own supportive friend at every step along the way.

2. Imagine it. What does a knock-the-ball-out-of-the-park life look like for you? What is the career that seems so incredible you think it’s almost criminal to have it?  What is the dream you don’t allow yourself to even consider because it seems too unrealistic, frivolous, or insane? Start envisioning it. That’s the beginning of having it.

3. Gasp. Start doing things that make you gasp and get the adrenalin flowing. Ask yourself, “What’s the gasp-level action here?” Your fears and a tough inner critic will chatter in your head. That’s normal, and just fine. When you hear that repetitive, irrational, mean inner critic, name it for what it is, and remember, it’s just a fearful liar, trying to protect you from any real or seeming risks. Go for the gasps and learn how false your inner critic’s narrative really is, and how conquerable your fears.

4. Get a thick skin. If you take risks, sometimes you’ll get a standing ovation, and sometimes, people will throw tomatoes. Can you think of any leader or innovator whom you admire who doesn’t have enthusiastic fans and harsh critics? Get used to wins and losses, praise and pans, getting a call back and being ignored. Work on letting go of needing to be liked and needing to be universally known as “a nice person.”

You make each day a special day. You know how, by just your being you. There’s only one person in this whole world like you. And people can like you exactly as you are. – Mister Rogers

Okay, admit it. Mister Rogers still puts a smile on your face. Before becoming a tour guide, I was worked in a VERY stressful office. Not only was the work demanding, the staff….well, they….let’s just say it was a far cry from the office I’m in now.   Their lives were so sad; they knew no other way to handle it other than to be unkind to one another.  Thankfully, God kept me out of all the battles and gossip.

Having lunch at home, needing a moment of goodness, I would turn on Mister Rogers as I made and ate my lunch.    Seriously, when PBS put his program back by ½ hour, I got my lunch hour changed!!  He would feed my heart for the return in the afternoon. Who can make you feel goodness more than Mr. Rogers?

If you go to this link you see a little video of him singing….go on, you know you wanna!

One of my favorite teachers that brings her students on tour has a great admiration for Thomas Jefferson. So much so, that as we would draw near to anything related to Thomas Jefferson while in Washington, D.C. or Monticllo the students would sing-song, “There’s Mrs. S’s boyfriend!”

The students quickly learned of my admiration for George Washington, so while we visited Mt. Vernon, I would hear the same, with George and I.

They were such a fun group and it’s one of my fondest memories. This one is for you Mrs. S!!

A sweet gal in my office learned of my admiration for G.W. and this is what she gave me for Christmas. What could be a better gift for a George Washington groupie?

Friendship is a plant of slow growth and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.  G.W.

Proof of weirdness:

Last night I was listening to an English movie. The English call an autopsy a post mortem; post meaning after.

A pre-mortem would definitely be putting the horse before the cart!

It was an Agatha Christie so someone had to go! I love Agatha, she is so tidy.  No gore.

Here is where I spiraled.

If post in that sense means after – why do we call it post office? After I write a letter I mail it? Post as in posting a notice…my letter? If I had thought about the answer long enough I would have figured it out but I was spiraling in the question. I can only do one thing at a time people!

In the wilds of early America with the pony express hopping along with all of our pioneer tin can & string cell phone bills, Target coupons and Pottery Barn catalogs, they would change riders &/or horses at out “posts”. Post office.

In colonial times too, they had posts (usually taverns) where the mail would accumulate to go oversees or to another colony. You know things like “Hey King, you’re making us a little upset out here in Boston!  Virginia is a little ticked too!”

I’m sure they were subscribing to Marshall Foster’s Mayflower Institute so they could read about themselves!

Hmmm! How in the name of all that is good did I get from autopsy to letters?

Phlegmatic – adj. 1: resembling, consisting of, or producing the humor of phlegm 2: having or showing a slow and stolid temperament.

What did Merriam Webster just say?? It appears as if they’re claiming that some people have the personality of  phlegm.

I have a friend who was has been a CEO and is really into the personality tests / traits to know how to approach each person on her staff.  On occasion she has our group of friends take them. They make for interesting discussion!

For anyone that has taken the personality test and has been labeled Phlegmatic – You need a new label!

Phlegmatic traits are: Unassuming, agreeable and intuitive, the ability to read between the lines.

I ask you, can phlegm do that?

According to the ancient Greeks, human personalities were controlled by four bodily fluids called “humors”. Phlegm was paired with water – the cold, moist element – and it was believed to impart the cool, unemotional personality we now call the “phlegmatic type,” a bit odd given that the term derives from the Greek phlegma, which literally means “flame”. So I get the definition means, but I still think Phlegmatics need a new word!

So if I’m interpreting this right and since I’m making this up, I’m sure I’m correct; my friends that are a bit reserved have a fire within, passion, wisdom, drive and a great sense of humor! (Not the Greek bodily fluid kind!) Don’t read between the lines, it’s a compliment!

This why I’m here, for these sophisticated clarifications for you collectors of words!

One of my closest friends in all the world wrote this beautiful post. Kim is a many-degreed brilliant, beautiful, and grounded woman.

(What) IF… by Rudyard Kipling & Kim Kipling-Falcon

If Christianity….
A few years ago I had a wonderful friend that was turning 13. His parents asked for words of encouragement from various friends and family members to share.
What I sent Nathaniel is valid for all of us.
Dear Nathaniel,
When I was your age I discovered this poem written by Rudyard Kipling, best known for being one of our relatives — oh yes, and the author of titles such as The Jungle Book and Kim.
It was during one of those in-between stages — you know — to old to hang with the little kids, but not old enough to be considered a teenager, that I read this over & over until I understood each line and it took hold inside of me as character.
Here is Auntie Kim’s version with a touch of Jesus included -the words in bold are my addition.
IF by Rudyard Kipling/Kim Kipling Falcon

If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, (Peace) If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you But make allowance for their doubting too,(Confidence) If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,(Patience) Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,(Honesty) Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,(Love) And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise; (Humility)
If you can dream–and not make dreams your master, (Realist) If you can think–and not make thoughts your aim; (Wisdom) If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same;(Even Tempered) If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,(Calmness) Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools: (Perseverance)
If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings (Adventurous) And never breath a word about your loss;(No Self Pity) If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!” (Determination)
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,(Mind Set on Him/Holiness/In the World, Not Of the World) Or walk with kings–nor lose the common touch,(Humbleness) If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you; (Secure)
If all men count with you, but none too much,(Steadfast) If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, (Effort)
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And–which is more–you’ll be a Godly Man, my son!

Nathaniel,
Who you are has already been formed. Who you become is still open to options.
Always apply Galatians 5:21-23 to every situation and circumstance.
The fruit of the Spirit, which His presence within us, is love, joy, peace, an even temper, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Jesus said you will know who loves and follows me by the fruit they have in their life.
Always display the fruit!
Character is not only made in a crisis — but it is exhibited.
Much Love, Prayers and Blessings, xoxo Auntie Kim
